SPEC Program at Marnebek School:
South Pacific Educational Courses (SPEC) was introduced at Marnebek School in 2013, within our Middle and Senior School SDS/High Needs classrooms. Since then, the program has been successfully implemented throughout these areas of the school and has been engaging our learners in meaningful and flexible program that is responsive to the specific needs and abilities of our students.
The SPEC Program is the vehicle through which teachers deliver the Victorian Curriculum to students aged between 10 and 18. It is divided into two courses; the PINICLE Course and the Headway Course. The PINICLE Course is delivered within the classroom context and consists of five workbooks, to be completed over five years, focusing on the General Capabilities of:
The Headway Course is delivered to students aged 16+ (Senior School students), as well as through our Electives Program. The workbooks within this course are divided into five broad categories:
Each module/workbook that a student engages in is documented through the production of a Portfolio of Evidence, which showcases the students process and progress throughout the completion of each task. The Portfolios are then externally verified before being sent home at the end of the year. These Portfolios are also a great resource for students to share their learning and what they do at school with family and friends, as well as external services that the student might access.
Students receive a Certificate of Achievement for each module/workbook that they complete, and work towards attaining their Certificate in Supported Learning.
