Message from the Principal’s Office

Dear Parents and Carers,

Just like that the Term 3 is completed….where did the time go? The past fortnight is a reflection of the term passed, action packed filled with exciting events. Yesterday we celebrated R U OK? Day where students dressed with a slash of yellow. R U OK? is an important reminder to check in on one another and start the conversation and empowering our students to reach out to friends. This years theme was “im here to hear” which reinforces the fact that you don’t need qualifications to check in with someone about mental health.

Congratulations to Kuyim house for taking out the Marnebek House Cup for Term 3 and a huge score of 9671 points. Our wonderful students accumulate points by being recognised for displaying our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. Each time a staff member identifies this in our students they are awarded 10 SWPBS points which goes towards the house total. The most pleasing aspect for me, there was a total 45,339 points awarded to students across all six house teams this term. That is an average of 10 recognitions per student in thew whole school, well done everyone!

Last week our secondary interschool sports students had their carnival day at Greaves Reserve in Dandenong. I am very pleased to announce our B Grade Mixed Netball team were the champions on the day. Students competed in 3 pool games and into the finals displaying Marnebek trademark of teamwork and determination. Unfortunately due to the shocking weather conditions last Friday the football tournament was cancelled. I have a feeling we may have come home with two teams of champions if the weather was kind to us, as the boys team was undefeated throughout the term. Well done to both our netballers and footballers on a  successful campaign.

Today was Footy Colours Day which is an opportunity for students to wear their favourite sporting team colours proudly. It was fantastic to so many students dressed up, boasting their favourite football team while having lots of fun! Best of luck to all remaining teams in the finals…. in particular the mighty Magpies!

O behalf of all the staff here at Marnebek School, we are wishing our students and families a fantastic term break. Lets hope this glorious weather continues. Stay safe and we will see you back on the 2nd October.

Kind regards,
Liam Mara | Assistant Principal | Learning Neighbourhood 3

R U OK? Day Celebrations

On Thursday, we celebrated R U OK?’ Day. Both campuses have been buzzing with positive energy as students engaged in a variety of activities aimed at promoting mental health and wellbeing. R U OK? Day has ignited a spirit of empathy and support within our school community, reminding us of the importance of checking in on one another.

Students in 8/9E started by brainstorming 5 safe people to talk to, then they discussed some scenarios and worked as a class to identify what they could say if they needed help, and how they can help their friends. Students then had fun working with class-mates to solve their R U OK puzzle and collecting their wristbands!

This program has been implemented to assist the students with their healthy living and self care routines. This has been a fun morning activity that has been explicitly teaching the students how to look after their oral hygiene.

Here are some pictures of us brushing our teeth following the teeth brushing steps:

  1. Wet your toothbrush

  4. Brush your back teeth

  5. Brush the insides of your treaty

  6. Gently brush your tongue

  7. Spit out your toothpaste

  8. Wash your toothbrush and put it away.

Year 4/5 Inflatable World Excursion

Our 4/5 students had an absolute blast on their recent excursion to Inflatable World! From bouncing through obstacle courses to soaring down giant slides, their smiles were as big as the inflatables themselves. It was a day filled with laughter, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.

News from Corrigans Rd Campus

The students in 10/11B have been working hard in their final push to read books for the Premier’s Reading Challenge.  We read a great book today as a class about Bernie the sad bee who could not fly, but found her strengths lay elsewhere. We love sharing books on a daily basis in our class.

We also welcomed our long awaited order of books.  It was wonderful to witness the students excitement as they began to devour the contents of their favourite choices. We now proudly have the beginning of a library cupboard in the common area of Learning Neighbourhood Four.

All of these books were ordered from the Book Club order catalogue which is so popular with our students.

It certainly has been an exciting week for all of our young readers.

LN4 Funky Disco

The students of The Advance Program worked hard planning an epic in-school disco for our senior students (Year 10, 11 & 12). Congratulations to our amazing students for pulling off an unforgettable Funk-tastic Disco! What a brilliant night it was - filled with great music, dance, and wonderful memories. They all did an excellent job organising this event, and it truly was an incredible night. Well done, our talented students!

We can’t believe that Term Three has come . The Term Three started with a lot of fun-filled learning activities. It has been a very busy Term starting from swimming, sports  and dance incursions, cooking ,community access and School Camp. The students engaged in English and Maths lessons. In English they focussed on Phonics and in Maths they worked on to improve their money and numeracy skills.

It has been an incredible and productive term for us at 8/9 D.

Students showed an energetic interest and were very enthusiastic about learning and engaging in classroom activities. They worked very hard and have made significant gains across a range of areas.

Our students have been involved in a range of reading and writing activities. Also, they have developed an understanding of what it means to be Responsible, Motivated, Respectful, Resilient and Safe learners. It is wonderful to see them developing these positive school experiences.

We celebrated, Book Week. It was wonderful to see so many students and staff dressed up as their favourite characters from many different books.

We also engaged in cooking activities and celebrated birthdays with great fervour.

ADANAC CAMP was another highlight of this term.

The students enjoyed and made memories that will last a lifetime.
