Numeracy

Our teachers use a variety of Mathematics programs designed to target a student’s individual point of development. Some of these programs include evidence-based practice programs that are developed in Australia and across the globe.

Marnebek believes that all students have the right to an education and will flourish with a comprehensive and strategic approach that supports their individual learning needs. We follow differentiated teaching and learning strategies to tailor our methods to each student, giving all students the opportunity to succeed at maths and the broader Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

Our teachers work to develop students’ understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning. Having an adequate grasp of these fundamentals not only helps students across Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability, but also gives students meaningful life skills to draw upon.

The Mathematics curriculum at Marnebek is presented in a scope and sequence chart that allows teachers to track their students’ progression, as well as plan teaching and learning programs that meet each student’s needs. These charts include the relevant content descriptions from the Victorian Curriculum. Each semester, every student is provided an individualised learning plan with three specific goals for Mathematics based on their current level of proficiencies.
