Message from the Principal’s Office

Hello and welcome to 2024 at Marnebek School!

On behalf of our entire school community I would like to say a big warm welcome to all of our new students and families and a big welcome back to all of our school community.

The summer break was a busy one at our New Holland Drive Campus, our new basketball court and gym was finished and students are loving the new spaces to learn and play in. We are also very close to being able to open up our new specialist learning building and students will soon be utilising the state-of-the-art music, art, food technology, science rooms and recording studio. Soon, we will see landscaping finished and even more of our outdoor space will be ready for student use. We once again thank the community for your patience and understanding whilst we finalise our capital works.

It has been an action-packed start across both campuses in the first couple of weeks at school. Teachers have been focusing on classroom routines, classroom environment and building relationships with students as we begin what promises to be another brilliant year at Marnebek School.

Please note, Student Support Group (SSG) meetings will be held on Tuesday 5th March from 10am- 6pm. These meetings will be a 30-minute block with a requirement that your child attends with you. Your child only needs to be in attendance on this day for the SSG meeting.

An SSG is a partnership between schools, parents/carers, the student, and relevant agencies. The group works together to plan and support the educational, health, social, cultural, and emotional wellbeing of students. During the meeting, we work together to establish short-term goals that will lead to the achievement of long-term goals.

This is a change from previous years due to the following reasons:

· SSG day will give teachers greater access to families to comply with the new Disability Inclusion Profile (DIP’s) rollout which supports the needs of your child.

· Specialist programs will be on display throughout the school with interactive activities available.

· Our new Gym and Resource Intensive Buildings are now open, and we would like to give you the opportunity to take a tour and explore the new spaces.

Further information on how to book through Compass will be sent out in the coming days.

Have a fantastic weekend from everyone at Marnebek School.

Regards,

Luke Bennett | Campus Principal

Student late arrival or early depatures

Students are not permitted to leave the school unaccompanied by an adult during school hours. Parents/carers may of course collect their child at any time they wish. If the child travels to or from school on the school bus parents/carers must ensure they inform the school office at the relevant campus that their child will not be travelling on the school bus. Office staff will then ensure their child’s name has been marked off the bus roll.

Late Arrivals Students who arrive at school after 9.00am must come to the office and sign in on the Compass Kiosk. If they have signed in on the Compass Kiosk they will take the slip to their teacher. This ensures we have a record of them being at school. All parents/carers will receive an SMS if their child has not arrived by 10:30am.

Early Leavers Students/parents/carers must report to the office and they will be sign out at the Compass Kiosk. All carers must have identification when collecting a student from the school. If your child is going to respite care please make sure you contact the office by phone or send a note with your child on the day they are going.

Welcome to Prep!

A warm welcome to Marnebek and the 2024 school year.

The preps have been off to a great start this year and have settled in well and comfortable in their new learning classrooms, routines and expectations.

Last week we learnt the M sound in phonics and will be focusing on the A sound this week. We have enjoyed plenty of story times, learning, dancing and playing in our classes. We will be continuing to focus on counting up to 5 through a variety of engaging, hands-on activities this term.

The prep students have also started their specialist classes including PE on a Monday and Art and Performing Arts on a Tuesday!

We are so excited for all the learning and fun in the upcoming year!

News from Corrigans Rd Campus

Welcome to Year 12

A big welcome from the new classrooms and welcome to Term 1 2024! We are all thankful for the new equipment that we get to use this year that will enhance our learning and create new and exciting learning opportunities. The year 12’s spent their first few days organising the rules that they would like to follow, establishing classroom expectations for the year and creating a safe space for learning, this has set a really good tone for a positive classroom environment. The students also received new stationary boxes that they were very excited about.

External programs started running this week, so a group of students went to Waverley industries on Monday. Although it was a very hot day, the students persevered and had a great day. They all worked hard with big smiles, demonstrated how to be safe in a working environment and followed instructions given by both staff and warehousing supervisors. Everyone is super excited to go back next week!

On Wednesday another group of students will start the Travel Training program, they will be going to Cranbourne Shopping Centre to buy their own lunch. The students are excited to be given the opportunity to build their independence in their local community and look forward to travelling to different places each week.

The Year 12 students are looking forward to a wonderful final year of school!
