Message from the Principal’s Office

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been another busy week here at Marnebek School. We are in the final stages of our building project with the slab poured and ready to start framing our new specialist spaces. These buildings will house subjects such as Art, Music, STEM, Drama, Physical Education, and Hospitality. We'd like to thank everyone for their patience, particularly around pick-up and drop-off times. I think we can all agree that whilst it's challenging, the outcome for students, in the long run, will be amazing.

Our grade preps celebrated 100 days of prep last week. it was fantastic to see the students dressed up as elderly people. The students also enjoyed a silent disco and a parade. Thanks to all staff involved, I'm sure the students had a ball.

If you keep an eye on our socials, you may have noticed a new addition to our school uniform. We now have a stylish beanie that students can wear during the colder days. You can purchase the beanie at Beleza and is currently in stock. It's fantastic to see students representing Marnebek with pride wearing their uniform with confidence.

We have had several sporting events take place this week with students participating in interschool sports, Special Olympics, Friday basketball, and swimming. The swimming program is vital in teaching our students water safety, particularly important as we move through to the warmer months.

Finally, I'd like to wish Shami Anadarajan all the best with the pending birth of her child and moving on to her maternity leave. Shami has promised to keep us updated, and we look forward to hearing the good news!

Kind regards,
Chris Murray | Assistant Principal | Learning Neighbourhood 4

100 Days of Prep Celebration

On Friday, 11th August, we had an amazing time celebrating 100 days of school with our Prep students! They dressed up as 100-year-olds and the creativity was incredible! The day was filled with exciting activities and the highlights were a wonderful parade right on the school ground and a silent disco! What a wonderful way to mark this milestone!

Prep Swimming Program

This week Prep students have enjoyed swimming lessons at Paul Sadler Swim School. We have had so much fun building our confidence in the water. We have been learning to blow bubbles and how to be safe when we are in/ near water.

Green & Gold Day

Students, staff and even our Westernport bus team dressed up in green and gold last Wednesday to show their support for the Matildas. Well done!

News from 4/5B by Danielle Anderson

In 4/5B this term we have been enjoying science lessons the most. We have been lucky enough to be able to explore different materials and the way they change their states. We have been able to experience science experiments from making jelly, popping popcorn, making biscuits, Oobleck, making ice cream and cloud dough. Science has opened up our knowledge and we have learnt to read recipes and make a hypothesis, which helps us guess what may happen.

Student Wellbeing

Over the last two weeks, on a Wednesday, 2 groups of students at Corrigans Rd have had the opportunity to participate in yoga. The students have been participating in 30-45 minute sessions and will have another 2 sessions over the next 2 weeks.

The students have really enjoyed participating in the yoga sessions and have been learning some helpful exercises that they can practice at home. Many students have commented how relaxed they feel after participating in the yoga.

Yoga is a great way of looking after your mental health and wellbeing. We look forward to learning more yoga over the next couple of weeks.

Swimming Program 11B

Issue 6 also has a couple of surprises inside for you to check out with Book Week coming up.

Book Week is all about exploring books and the imagination!

Book Week is an exciting time at our school. This year we are encouraged by the words Read, Grow and Inspire. Here are a few questions to help you think about your own reading experiences:

• Who are your favourite book characters? Do they inspire you? Do you see yourself in some of the books you read? Do you learn about people that are different from you?

• Do you like to choose your own books to read? What kind of stories do you usually pick? Are they about sports that interest you, or magical adventures to escape into other worlds; or perhaps you like fact books about animals and the environment? Why do you think you choose these kinds

of stories?

• How do you think reading helps you grow? Do you feel like you’ve learned something about the world after reading a book? Do you feel relaxed after reading? Do you feel like you

understand your own emotions a bit better?

• How will you continue the Book Week celebrations at home? Think of some ways to keep reading exciting. Perhaps you could set up a book nook filled with your favourite books. Look through Book Club to see what's new and interesting to you! Check out the catalogue here: ISSUE 6
