Message from the Principal’s Office

Liam Mara

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another exciting fortnight at Marnebek School as we round off week 4 and head into Melbourne Cup weekend.  This Tuesday, we welcomed our parents through the doors for Term 4 SSG night. The final opportunity this year to collaborate between parents/carers and teachers to track students’ goals and achievements. I hope you found the SSGs are useful as we did.

On Tuesday 25th October, Senior Constable Dave Smith, from the Narre Warren Police Station visited our Corrigans Rd campus for a very informative and important lesson on Cyber Safety. He delivered an important message of how to be safe online and gave students excellent tips when interacting with people through the internet. A  reminder to parents and carers to monitor your children when online and who they are talking to.

Today was a Halloween themed fundraiser for the Victorian flood relief. Our fellow Victorians have been doing it tough up north and the Marnebek community has played a small part in bringing some relief to those in need. It was great to see so many wonderful costumes from students and staff, getting behind this great cause. There were prizes for best dressed and many smiling faces.

The next three weeks, our Preps- Year 8’s are learning about Expressing and Developing Ideas from the Victorian Curriculum. Each lesson is planned with the students point of need to continue to develop their skills with reading.  The reading strategy we are focusing on for the three weeks to support the curriculum is: Lips the Fish-say the initial sound.

The Preps have had an incursion on Tuesday the 24th October- Animals of Oz! The students learnt about different animals and their habitats.

Today we celebrate ‘World Teachers’ Day’! We are very lucky to have such a wonderful and talented group of teachers that bring professionalism to their classrooms each day. A huge Thank You to all the teachers at Marnebek School for the amazing work you do for our fabulous students.

A reminder that this Monday 31st October is a curriculum day, there is no school for students. I wish everyone a happy Melbourne Cup weekend and we look forward to seeing our energetic students on Wednesday!

Kind regards,
Liam Mara | Assistant Principal

Cooking and learning to write procedures with 5/6 D!

Our students have been learning how to write procedures.

Cooking is an excellent way to learn procedure writing – by designing and planning our own pan cakes , we learned the skills required to write a procedure. Plus, it’s great fun too!

We also got to work on our food skills and preparation. The best part of the lesson was definitely making and eating our creations!

News from Learning Neighbourhood 1 New Holland Drive Campus

This term, the Prep students have been learning about animals and their habitats. On Monday, 24th of October, we had a visit from Animals of Oz. Our ranger Jess taught us about some Australian animals and where they live. We got to see a blue tongue lizard, a frogmouth bird, a green tree frog, a snake, a ring tail possum and a baby crocodile.

It was so wonderful to see all of the students using gentle hands when touching the animals. In the afternoon we painted pictures of the animals we saw that day.

News from Grade 1 and 2 in room 502

We have had a fun return to class in the first four weeks of term enjoying a variety of literacy, numeracy, sensory and therapy activities.

After starting the day with a quick calendar, weather and name activity the students have been learning a variety of letter and word sounds and reading with the class.

We are focusing on comparing objects which are lighter or heavier in numeracy plus, longer and shorter in addition to number recognition, counting, addition and using catalogues for practice with money and shopping.

We’ve all been enjoying visits twice a week from the Therapy Team when students participate in a learn to play program to improve skills such as turn taking and imaginative play.

This week we made lanterns for a Hindu Festival called Diwali and learnt how it celebrates light conquering dark and the benefit of knowledge. Then we made lanterns.

We have been keeping an eye on our big new building project and now we are doing activities and learning about Halloween to get ready for our spooky Friday!

Who’s Who @Marnebek

Keyuri Dandiya | Education Support

Hello everyone!

My name is Keyuri Dandiya. I was born in India and moved to Australia eighteen years ago. I have been working at Marnebek as a casual ES for almost two years but have gained my official position in May of this year. I am working in 5/6D classroom now.

I have been working in the Environmental Science field for a few years before changing to this  profession.

It has been such a privilege to be able to be part of the Marnebek community. Every day, I enjoy coming to work, loving my job as it's my passion to provide support and assistance to all of my students, helping them reach their full potential and to aid them in not only their education and learning journey but their social journey as a student as well. This has been one of the most rewarding jobs for me and is a key reason why I enjoy waking up and coming to school with a smile on my face.

I am a mother of  two beautiful daughters: Pahal and Anaaya. They are 15 and 10 years old, respectively. My youngest daughter enjoys playing basketball and I spend my weekend cheering her on from the sidelines.

We also love going out as a family, meeting together with our many friends and family friends, often making impromptu plans yet having the most fun! Additionally, we love cricket and  footy. GO GEELONG!

In my free time, I quite enjoy sitting and relaxing with a book in my hands, especially one in which I am immensely interested. After a long day at work, which can often sometimes be chaotic, a cup of tea with my favourite book is my way to wind down and enjoy the moment with surreal serenity and comfort.

Thank you
