Message from the Principal’s Office

Chris Murray

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another busy fortnight for all students at Marnebek School. Term 4 is a fantastic term for celebrating and recognizing student achievement, and acknowledging their hard work throughout 2022. The Capital Works project is continuing at a fast pace with plastering beginning at Corrigan’s Road Campus and all steel work finalized at New Holland Drive. It’s great to see the excitement continue to grow amongst staff and students as the builds progresses.

We have had several incursions/excursions over the best few weeks with the Prep team having a visit from Animals of Oz, and having the opportunity to meet several creepy crawlies up close and personal. Senior students attended Urban Surf waterpark, with students learning about water safety, recognizing rips, and how to stand up on a surfboard! There have also been several excursions to various sporting events across all year levels including Casey stadium multi-sports sessions for the primary students and interschool sports carnivals for the senior students. We have also recently been informed that two students Brock Carmichael and Tyler Bergin have progressed to the next stage of the Victorian Basketball selections. They are now part of the 14-man training squad and we are very proud of their efforts.

Last Monday’s curriculum day was also very productive with staff attending various training and planning sessions focusing on 2023. We are working through the current complexities of our building project and will provide the Marnebek community with information on class groups and class locations as soon as we can.

Today the students took the time to recognize the soldiers that have been or currently are serving our great country and providing the freedoms we have the luxury to enjoy every day. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many countries that are still involved in various conflicts. Thank you to Ryan Frederickson and Charlotte Pataki represented Marnebek in placing a wreath at the Dandenong memorial for fallen soldiers.

Finally, a HUGE congratulations to Chloe Jones who has been shortlisted at the Principals Association for Special Schools for her dedication and commitment as a Learning Specialist to improving student learning. She will be accompanied by Jenny Hamilton and the leadership team at the awards and we wish her all the best!

Kind regards,
Chris Murray | Assistant Principal | Senior Pathways

A small group of Senior Pathways students attended a service at Dandenong RSL. Our Primary and Secondary School Captains participated in an onsite ceremony at New Holland Drive & Corrigans Rd.

We're so proud to see our students demonstrating one of our school values - RESPECT, acknowledging the past and the soldiers who helped shape our future.

Lest We Forget.

News from Room 306 (now 312)

Oh wow!!! It’s halfway through Term 4 already. Not long and we will be going into the Christmas season. How exciting!!!! Can’t wait to do all the Christmas artwork.

We got straight into our learning from the start of Term 4. For Literacy we read a book, construct sentences and are working on our writing skills. Few of us have learnt to type a sentence on the word document on the iPad. We all have our log in details and are very proud of the work we do. Our other friends work on the sensory part of the story.

For Numeracy, we are focusing on ordering objects longer and shorter. Number recognition, counting, addition using concrete materials and sorting objects in groups based on colour.

We have the Therapy team come into our classroom twice a week, we participate in a “learn to play” program to improve our play skills and imaginative play after which we frame sentences using colourful semantics to tell each other what we played with.

URBNSURF Excursion & Swimming Program

It has been a water themed couple of weeks over at Learning Neighbourhood 4. On Wednesday, Senior Pathways students participated in their first Urban Surf Excursion where they took to the waves at Tullamarine.

Everyone had a fantastic time and even though the water was freezing, all got in and did their best. Students all learnt how to stand safely on their boards, and all water safety related tasks. Then they were ready to head on in.  Everyone participated really well, and we even had a few champions who managed to stand up at their first session.  All look forward to the new skills that are going to learn next week.

We have also had several students start swimming this week.  Our swimmers numbers will increase after the Parks and Gardens students graduate on the 15th but it was great to see at least some students improve their skills in the water.

The Year 12’s are off on their last Marnebek School Camp on Monday.  Summit camp here we come!
